There is a list published by Ranker that has 100 most beautiful women, according to votes from the public.
I looked at it out of curiosity because I work in an industry that places a lot of values on looks so naturally I was curious – and would the list prove that there is something universal about beauty and looks or not?
The list states that the women are only there through looks alone – not through talents or accomplishments (there are a lot of actresses on the list) – and that they are ranked according to a woman’s beauty during her peak years (though it doesn’t say what those peaks years are…)
Interestingly, the list includes quite a few women who are now dead – such as Marilyn Monroe (number two in the list), Farrah Fawcett, Natalie Wood, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.
It doesn’t surprise me that the list includes so many actresses from the Golden Era of cinema – a la Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth. As well as beautiful faces, these women had the most amazing bodies and their images were pinned up in bedrooms and offices all round the world. In those days too, there was rather more mystique to a celebrity – and less likelihood of them being caught on camera scruffily dressed or looking terrible.
The youngest and most current actress on the list is Kate Upton (23) at number 67, and the oldest woman on the list (still alive) is Maureen O’Hara (95) at number 82. Sophia Loren is also on the list at number 10 – she’s now aged 81.
Surprisingly, there are only two models on the list – Elle Macpherson and Cindy Crawford, with Cindy rated more highly than Elle – 36, though some of the women listed were models before they were actresses such as Cameron Diaz and Sophia Vergara.
So who is number 1 amongst this bevy of beauties? Marilyn Monroe? Elizabeth Taylor? Sophia Loren? It’s… Grace Kelly! She’s rated by more than 15,000 people and she’s the most listed. Just as I’ve posted previously, blondes seem to attract a lot of attention and preference. The top 20 also includes other blondes such as Marilyn Monroe, Charlize Theron, Rita Hayworth, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ursula Andress, Scarlett Johansson, Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve.
